Joe Wallace in the service, about 1945. Joe served at the front in North
Africa and Italy; he was hit by scrap metal that killed the two young men
next to him. Joe relayed the story of meeting Morris Cohen, cousin Helda's
husband by accident in Italy; he also said he went to a Jewish wedding in
Italy. But the story about writing a letter to the Mars candy company telling
them how much he loved and missed their candy got him a case of candy bars.
That story was quintessential Joe, who never lost that child quantity
throughout his life.
